Overview of Topics

 

Remarks : QuickBooks represents a new breed of accounting programs for the small business owner. It has many enhancements that are enjoyed by many high-end programs that cost much more .

Overview of QuickBooks : At the beginning of the course, we shall work with an existing company with a set of accounts already created and undertake an overview of the program as follows:

  • Overview of the chart of accounts, add/modify/delete accounts, account balances etc.
  • Overview of preferences and background features available to the user
  • Overview of receivables , payables, projects, items & payroll features

Setting up a New Company: Steps to create a new company using the wizard;

  • Overview of the templates, using a template, creating a new company;
  • Setting Edit Preferences allows you to provide the default working background for the program.

Creating/Modifying Accounts : create/modify/delete etc new accounts, types of accounts

  • Entering current balances, and features available within the program

Setting Up Modules

  • Setting up the vendor accounts, entering, modifying, deleting vendors, options available
  • Setting up the customers accounts, entering, modifying, deleting customers, options available
  • Setting up Items: uses/purposes of items, types of items, strategies for naming & usage
  • Setting up Employees and the Payroll Module, deductions and payroll items, strategies etc

Processing Transactions : At this stage, participants will be given a variety of transactions to:

  • Creating Invoices and features of such, receive Payments
  • Creating Purchase Invoices/Bills, features of such, Paying Bills, terms and such
  • Entering Cash Receipts, writing checks etc.

Exploring the Reports facility

  • Overview of Income statements, balance sheets, sales and purchasing reporting
  • Summaries, GST, journal transactions, etc.
  • Sales by Customer, Purchases by Vendor, Aged Reports etc.

Exploring the Customized Reports facility

  • Customizing your reports, forms, etc.
  • Strategic use of filters and formatting features

Other Considerations: We shall explore other features of the program, such as

  • finding transactions, modifying, deleting transactions
  • voiding transactions, handling write-offs etc.
  • Handling Credits from Vendors, Credits to Customers etc.
